History
ATECO has tracked the European NACE standard since 1991. The 2025 edition aligns Italy with NACE Rev. 2.1, introducing nearly 950 new codes and retiring over 300 obsolete ones.
Usage & importance
Required for Italian business registration (Registro Imprese), tax filings and Istat statistics. Its first four levels are exactly NACE Rev. 2.1, so European conversions are one-to-one by construction.
