Classification systems

Twenty-three systems, one mental model.

Each system classifies the same economic activity from a different vantage point. Learn how each is built, its history, and where it's used.

The global standard

The UN classification every other system on this site maps to.

Europe — the NACE family

NACE Rev. 2.1 and the national systems built on it. Eight of these are identical to NACE at levels 1–4, so conversions between them are one-to-one.

North America — the NAICS family

The trilateral agreement between the US, Canada and Mexico, plus the legacy SIC bridge.

East Asia

Independently derived from ISIC, each with its own numbering.

South & Southeast Asia, Oceania

ISIC-aligned national standards across the Indo-Pacific.

Latin America

Renumbered against ISIC, so conversions are matched by meaning rather than by code.
