Hong Kong’s standard industrial classification, maintained by the Census and Statistics Department. Version 2.0 is modeled on ISIC Revision 4, keeping its numbering at the first four levels and adding 6-digit Hong Kong subclasses.

History

HSIC Version 2.0 replaced the 1990 version in 2009, rebasing Hong Kong’s statistics on ISIC Revision 4 while adding local 6-digit detail for the territory’s service-heavy economy.

Usage & importance

Used across Census and Statistics Department surveys, employment statistics and national accounts. ISIC-numbered at the class level, so conversions chain through the official UN ISIC 4→5 correspondence.
