Malaysia’s standard industrial classification, maintained by the Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM). MSIC 2025 is built on ISIC Rev. 5: 453 of its 467 classes carry an ISIC code, and 393 share the ISIC title word for word.

History

MSIC has followed ISIC since 1972, with major editions in 2000 and 2008. MSIC 2025 moves Malaysia onto ISIC Rev. 5, though it retains an ISIC Rev. 4-style division 45 for motor-vehicle trade that Rev. 5 folded into divisions 46 and 47.

Usage & importance

Used by DOSM, SSM (the companies commission) and Malaysian business licensing. Most conversions to ISIC are exact by code and title; the motor-vehicle classes route through the UN’s ISIC Rev. 4 to Rev. 5 correspondence instead.
