What 19 includes

• This division includes the transformation of crude petroleum and coal into usable products. The dominant process is petroleum refining is decomposed in the crude oil through techniques such as Cracking and distillation into its components.
• This division includes the manufacture of gases (e.g., ethane, propane and butane) as products of petroleum refineries.
• This division also includes the manufacture of products for its own account (e.g. coke, butane, propane, fuel, kerosene, fuel oil) as well as processing services (e.g., Refining in the sales order).

What 19 excludes

• This division does not include the production of gases in other units (see 20.14.0), the production of industrial gases (see 20.11.0), the extraction of natural gas (methane, ethane, butane, or propane, see 06.20.0), and the production of gases, other than natural gas, for the supply of gaseous fuels via a permanent supply network (e.g., coal gas, water gas, producer gas, gas from gasworks, see 35.21).
• The production of petrochemical products from refined petroleum and the production of liquid biofuels are classified in Division 20.
