What 46 includes

• This division encompasses the wholesale sale of goods, excluding motor vehicles and motorcycles, whether conducted by a wholesale merchant or by a representative or agent of commerce. Generally, this sale is an intermediate stage in the distribution of goods; and it is organized to sell goods in large quantities to retailers, businesses, agricultural establishments, cooperatives, and institutional clients. However, some wholesalers, especially those supplying large capital goods, sell goods by unit to end users.
• The activities of representatives and agents of commerce who, under contract, market merchandise on behalf of third parties or act as intermediaries between sellers and buyers of wholesale merchandise, are included in group 46.1, and the activities of wholesalers who buy the merchandise they resell are covered in groups 46.2, 46.3, 46.4, 46.5, 46.6, 46.7, 46.8 and 46.9.
• This division also includes the usual wholesale trade operations – assembly, classification and grouping of products on a large scale, portioning, packaging and bottling, redistribution into smaller containers – when carried out independently – and the activities of commercial representatives and wholesale trade agents carried out via the internet.

What 46 excludes

• This division does not include the trade in motor vehicles and motorcycles, parts and accessories (section G - division 45); the rental of machinery and equipment without operators, personal belongings and household goods (section N - division 77) and the activities of portioning, packaging and bottling under contract (8292-0/00)
