  • This section includes units primarily focused on conducting financial transactions, that is, transactions involving the creation, settlement, and exchange of ownership of financial assets. It also includes insurance, capitalization, reinsurance, supplementary pension, health plan activities, and support service activities for financial transactions and insurance activities. The Central Bank, as the country's monetary authority, is also included in this section.
  • Financial intermediation activities are primarily carried out by institutions within the National Financial System (SFN), as defined by laws No. 4,595/64, which grants the Central Bank of Brazil (BACEN) and the Securities and Exchange Commission (CVM) the authority to authorize, regulate, and oversee financial intermediation, and No. 4,728/65, which regulated the capital market by defining auxiliary activities. However, it also includes entities outside the SFN that carry out activities involving the creation, collection, and redistribution of financial funds (examples: factoring companies, corporate financing banks, credit granting by OSCIPs, etc.).
  • This section also includes insurance institutions, regulated by the National Superintendence of Private Insurance (SUSEP) and the Management Council of Supplementary Pension Plans, capitalization companies, supplementary pension plans, health plans, and services strictly linked to financial and insurance activities.
  • This section also includes activities related to asset ownership, such as the activities of holding companies, investment funds, and other financial entities.
