What 31 includes

• This division includes the manufacture of furniture and their parties, with the exception of the leaves and plates of glass, stone, concrete or similar materials are used as parts of furniture. The processes used in the manufacture of furniture are standard methods of forming materials and assembling components, including cutting, moulding and the rolling. The design of the article, both for its aesthetic qualities as functional, is a important aspect of the production process.
• Some of the processes used in furniture manufacturing are similar to those used in other sectors of the manufacturing industry (for example, cutting and assembly involved in the production of wooden armatures classified in division 16). However, the multiplicity of process distinguishes the manufacturing of wooden furniture from the manufacture of wood products. Similarly, the manufacture of metal furniture makes use of the techniques that are also employed in the manufacture of products formed by rolling, classified in division 25. The casting process the plastic furniture is similar to the moulding of other plastics products. However, the manufacture of plastic furniture tends to be a specialised activity.
