What 17 includes

  • This division includes: - pulp production, which involves separating cellulose fibers from impurities contained in wood or waste paper, dissolving and deinking used paper, and mixing them with small amounts of reagents to strengthen the fiber bonds, - paper production, - production of paper products manufactured using various techniques (cutting, forming, coating, and laminating), - production of products from recycled materials: wood, paper, paperboard, and cardboard.
  • The production of these products is grouped in a single division because it consists of a series of vertically interconnected activities. Often, many of these activities are performed within the same economic entity. Paper products (e.g., wallpaper, decorative paper) may contain printed information, provided that the information contained therein is not essential. The production of pulp, paper, and paperboard is classified in the appropriate subclasses of group 17.1.
  • The remaining groupings of this division cover processed paper and paperboard products.
