What E includes

• This section covers: - management (e.g., collection, processing, recovery, and disposal) of various forms of waste (e.g., solid and non-solid industrial and household waste) and their organization, - water supply activities, which are often carried out in conjunction with sewage treatment activities by the same entity, but can also be carried out by separate entities, - remediation of contaminated buildings and sites, soil, surface and groundwater (e.g., oceans, mangroves, seas), and the like.
• The end product of waste and sewage management may be destined for landfill or become an input product for another production process.
• Secondary raw materials are materials resulting from the processing (through mechanical or chemical processing) of production waste, pre-sorted municipal waste, or scrap and used products, suitable for direct use in an industrial production process (replacing primary raw materials), and not constituting a new final product. Businesses that typically take over waste management procedures from their clients, bill them for waste management, but outsource the services to another business entity must be classified in Division 38 because, although these entities do not provide the relevant waste-related services themselves, they are responsible for their implementation. Such activities are considered complete outsourcing of services.
