What 08 includes

• This division includes the extraction of non-metallic minerals from quarries, alluvial deposits, rocks, and sedimentary soils. The products included in this division are typically used in construction (sands, stones), for the manufacture of other materials (clay, gypsum), and for the manufacture of chemical products (natural phosphates and sulfates).
• This division also includes processing activities, associated with or continuing from extraction (cutting, cleaning, drying, etc.) and sea salt refining activities.

What 08 excludes

• This division does not include the activities of vertically integrated units that process non-metallic minerals, such as cement and ceramic materials plants (section C - division 23); support activities for the extraction of non-metallic minerals carried out under contract (section B - division 09); mine excavation activity when not carried out by the mineral exploration company (section F - division 43).
