What B includes

This section covers the activities of extracting minerals in their natural state: solids (coal and other ores), liquids (crude oil) and gases (natural gas), which may be carried out in underground mines, open pits or wells.
This includes complementary processing activities associated with extraction, carried out mainly to improve product quality and facilitate marketing, provided that the processing does not alter the physical or chemical characteristics of the minerals. Processing activities are generally performed by the mining company at the extraction site. Processing activities include: crushing, classification, concentration, pulverization, flotation, natural gas liquefaction, etc.
Extractive activities are classified into divisions, groups, and subclasses according to the main mineral produced.
This section also includes industrial services performed under contract that are part of the production process of the activities in this section, particularly in oil extraction, and specialized support activities for mineral exploration.

What B excludes

This section does not include the beneficiation of non-metallic minerals carried out outside the extraction site (section C); the preparation of land for mineral extraction (section F) and geophysical, geological and similar studies (section M).
