What B includes
- The extractive industries include extraction of minerals found in the natural state under the form of solids (coal and ores), liquids (petroleum) or gaseous (natural gas). The extraction can be done in different ways (for example, under the earth, on the surface, by the digging of wells or by the mining of the seabed).
- This section includes the additional steps necessary for the preparation of the materials raw for their marketing (e.g. crushing, grinding, cleaning, drying, the yard, the concentration of ores, liquefaction of natural gas).
- Mining activities are classified into divisions, groups and classes on the basis of the principal mineral product. Divisions 05, 06 relate to the extraction of fossil fuels (coal, lignite, oil, gas) ; divisions 07, 08 concern the extraction of metal ores, minerals various products and career.
- Some of the technical operations of this section, in particular for the extraction of hydrocarbons, can be made for the account of third parties by specialised units as an activity service industry within the division 09.
