What B includes
- This section covers: - mining and extraction (e.g., underground, open-pit, through drilling, from the seabed) of minerals occurring in nature as solids (coal and ores), liquids (petroleum), or gases (natural gas), - ancillary activities related to preparing minerals for sale (e.g., crushing, grinding, purification, drying, sorting, desalination, briquetting, ore enrichment, and liquefaction of natural gas), on mine sites.
- This section is divided into divisions, groups, classes, and subclasses based on the mineral extracted. Divisions 5 and 6 cover the extraction of hard coal, lignite, and peat, the extraction of crude oil and natural gas; divisions 7 and 8 cover the mining of metal ores and other minerals, and the extraction of stone. Certain technical activities classified in this section, particularly those related to the extraction of crude oil and natural gas, may be performed on commission by specialized businesses engaged in production and service activities, classified in the appropriate subclasses of division 09.
