What B includes

• This section covers the extraction of naturally occurring solid (coal and ores), liquid (petroleum), and gaseous (natural gas) mineral resources. The extraction of such resources can be carried out using various methods (e.g., underground and open-pit mining, drilling, or seabed mining).
• It also includes additional activities for processing raw materials for marketing (e.g., crushing, grinding, washing, drying, sorting, ore concentration, and natural gas liquefaction).
• The divisions, groups, classes, and subclasses of this section are organized according to the primary resource extracted. Divisions 5 and 6 deal with the mining and extraction of fossil fuels (bituminous coal, lignite, petroleum, and gas); divisions 7 and 8 cover ore mining, the extraction of stone and earth, and other mining activities.
• Some of the technical activities of this section, particularly those related to the extraction of hydrocarbons, may also be provided by specialized units of Department 09 as an industrial service to third parties.
