What 871 includes
- Like hospital, nursing home also means any licensed establishment for the care of the sick, injured or infirmed or those who require medical treatment. Unlike hospital, it provides a relatively narrow scope of services. Examples are nursing homes for the elderly, residential centres for the medical treatment of drug dependent persons, institutions where certain types of surgery or treatment can be carried out under general anaesthesia or heavy sedation, e.g. termination of pregnancy. Institutions where the day care treatment procedures are being carried out but not under the continual direct personal supervision of a registered medical practitioner are also included as nursing homes. A renal dialysis centre is an example.
